Vocational Skills Training Classes- These courses are offered in addition to our core curriculum. We are currently offering ten courses that we believe augment the student’s core classes, giving them additional resources to succeed at specific jobs. We chose topics that correspond with some of the industries that we partner with.
- Caregiving- gives a brief general overview of the job, focusing on everyday senior care as well as HIPPA laws and regulations.Students complete work in a senior care training lab.8 – 3 hr sessions and 1-4 hr lab.
- Photo/Video/Desktop Publishing- Students learn to use Adobe Video Editing Suite, which is used by most TV stations and video design firms around the CSRA.Students volunteer at local TV and radio stations.6 – 3 hr classes, 20 hrs of volunteer opportunity.
- Office Assistant- students learn the basics of what local business employers are looking for with regards to business letter writing, use of Microsoft office suite, and proper office behavior.8- 2.5 hr classes and 20 hour of volunteer opportunity.
- Construction—students complete a remodeling project each session, allowing them to learn how to install sheetrock and tile, use a hammer, practice safety, paint and measure.8 – 5 hr. sessions.
- Advanced Computing- for the student that wants to become proficient at Excel and Word.8-3 hr classes with class project.
- Hospitality--- students attend 6 3-hour sessions learning the hospitality industry, then they are exposed to serving in a hotel, restaurant and resort setting with an opportunity to serve at the exclusive Sage Valley Golf Club.6- 3 hr classes, plus 3- 4 hours service opportunities
- Customer Service--- students are trained to provide good customer service.Customer service can be defined as any action you take to ensure that a customer is pleased with the transaction on a long-term basis.In addition to completing the curriculum, students are involved in role playing, secret shopper experiences and volunteer retail opportunities in local thrift shops.8 – 3 hr. classes; 20 hrs of volunteer experience.
- Workplace Safety--Workplace safety is a legal obligation for all organizations and students are trained to be part of a safe culture.6 – 3 hr classes.Tours of 4 local businesses.
- Entrepreneurship- participants are taught to: understand how to start a business, develop a business plan, get financing for their business, hire and train employees, run their business and grow your business. They will meet a local entrepreneur and hear their story each session. They are then introduced to mentors from local SCORE chapters.6- 3 hr. classes, mentorship.
- Salesmanship—this class teaches participants basic sales process,
